PS3 Slim
The new Playstation 3 console has arrived. Launched in September 2009, the new console is much slimmer and lighter than previous models, hence the name PS3 Slim.
News of a new Playstation console circulated for several years before the official announcement. In fact, rumours of the new PS4 console are already around. One impact of the PS3 Slim is that the PS4 is unlikely to be released until 2012 now.
But what of the PS3 Slim Console. The new Playstation 3 gets a redesigned cooling system, power supply and main semiconductor. This means that the PS3 Slim has two-thirds less power consumption than the previous Playstation 3 console, making the PS3 more eco-friendly. Sony have also taken this opportunity to change the brand name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3.
The new PS3 Slim retains the Blu-Ray Player from the previous console and sees an increase in storage from 80GB to 120GB. This is perhaps a surprise as there is already a 160GB Playstation 3.
